Why get Assessed or Diagnosed?

The assessment and diagnosis process involves a thorough evaluation of an individual's psychological functioning to determine the presence and nature of any mental health conditions. This involves gathering information about the individual's symptoms, medical history, and personal circumstances. The assessment may include a clinical interview, self-report measures, observation, and other assessment tools. The information collected is then used to develop a comprehensive understanding of the individual's psychological functioning, and to formulate a diagnosis if appropriate. A diagnosis can provide clarity and direction for treatment, and can be an important step in the journey towards improved mental health and well-being.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI)?

The PAI assesses a range of symptoms related to psychological disorders such as Depression, Anxiety, Mania (hyperactivity), Borderline Personality, Bipolar Disorders, Antisocial behaviors, Paranoia, and Substance Abuse. Additionally, the assessment measures problems related to interpersonal functioning.

It’s important to keep in mind that while the PAI provides crucial information for clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and screening for psychopathology, it does not cover all clinical disorders, such as eating disorders. Therefore, it’s often beneficial to use the PAI alongside other measures to obtain a comprehensive diagnosis.

What is the Depression Stress Anxiety Scale?

The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS) is a self-report questionnaire designed to measure the three related negative emotional states of depression, anxiety, and stress. It consists of 42 items that assess the severity of each symptom experienced over the past week using a 4-point Likert scale. The DASS has been validated and widely used in research and clinical settings to screen for and monitor symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress.
